After years of internal debate (literally years), I’m taking the leap and reading my first book on camera. Woo!

CC says I sound nervous and she’s right for two reasons. I haven’t read this book in a very long time, and I’ve written several since it was published in 2013. There will be cringe moment when I find grammatical mistakes. Bear with me as I power through. And I’ve long felt I’ve had “a face for radio,” as they used to say back in the day, but readers like writers to read their works online. I am nothing but a servant to the people, so here you go!

There’s no great and glorious plan here. I’ll jump in front of the camera without warning or (obviously) planning. I will try to make it fun and interesting, and maybe we’ll learn stuff along the way.

Part 1: The first video where I jump right in and read the first part of the book.

Part 1 again: I started over because I remembered that not only do readers like when writers read books aloud, they also like writers to explain their thought processes behind their books. The Forward and more of Chapter One, or a part of Chapter Two is in this video.

Part 2: Getting deeper into “Duties Faithfully Executed,” and finding technical things in the text that I would not include in books I’m writing today. That’s fine: live and learn.

Part 3: The Wonder Years. Every real and fictional autobiography is required to address the formative high school years. We catch Bruce in flagrante delicto (trigger warning), and there’s a basketball game.

Part 4: Reading the next section of “Duties Faithfully Executed,” which includes a one-night stand and joining the Air Force. It’ll make more sense if you watch the video. Enjoy!

Part 5: Reading the next section of “Duties Faithfully Executed,” which includes an in-depth look at the nuts-and-bolts of campaign financing and being stationed in Afghanistan.

Part 6: Reading the next section of “Duties Faithfully Executed” with the important role of the campaign manager. I drew on my own experiences as a campaign manager for a state-wide office to flesh out the details in this chapter.
