Nevada journalist, author, and creator of the Backyard Traveler series, Rich Moreno returns to “The CC & JT Amateur Hour” where we discuss the creative and publishing journey behind his first book of short stories. Known for his non-fiction works centered around the Silver State, Rich’s transition into fiction showcases the creative process that many writers navigate, blending personal experiences with the landscapes of the American West.
Tales from the Nevada Ether began when he submitted a story to an anthology curated by Carson City publisher Stephen Provost and Dragon Crown Books. This submission led to a series of published stories in subsequent anthologies, ultimately culminating in the collection of his own short stories. Rich reflects these and on his early writings, revealing that his first short story was crafted during a class led by the esteemed Nevada writer Bob Laxalt.
The podcast concludes with sage advice from Rich to all authors on the traditional publishing process: “Read the contract.”
