For Episode 206 of ⁠our lovely award-winning podcast⁠, we don’t actually have a podcast. We’re blaming the ghosts.

We spent Wednesday, January 9, 2025 exploring Nevada’s first metropolis, Virginia City. Home to the famous Comstock Lode, this town once boasted a population of 30,000 fortune seekers digging for valuable minerals in the steep mountains and hills throughout Storey County. For all intents and purposes, Nevada was born during this bonanza.

We did this “wild and crazy thing” because CC’s manuscript is centered around the waning days of the Big Boom. Her character lives in the era of the 1875 Virginia City Fire, and CC wanted to capture as much vibe and ambience as she could. We even stayed overnight in the Silver Queen Hotel which was built in 1876, immediately after the fire.

The hotel is a story all by itself, and I hope the video (filmed in our room) captured our feelings and how far we were outside our comfort zone. That aside, we had a lot of fun exploring the town and famous graveyard (pictured above), eating one of the best chicken breast sandwiches we’ve had in a while, and having the entire haunted hotel to ourselves. We’re back to our regular schedule for Sunday, and it’s been an exciting week. Lots to talk about!

And as I said, we did record a podcast track, but it got corrupted (bad ghosts!), so only video today.
